Lisbon
Lisbon has it all! Cute little streets, to wander around, cheap and delicious food and heaps of culture! If you’re looking for a sunny and cheap getaway, Lisbon is your culture hotspot.
Portugals Capital is famous for it’s hills, beautiful squares and of course the pastry, ‘Pasteis de Nata’
The colours and lovely people make you fall in love with this city very fast. Even the subwaystations are colourfull and welcome you into the city!
Food at every corner and sweet grandma’s selling Ginjinha from their front door will give you a taste of what life can be like in Lisbon.
Highlights
The city has something for everyone!
For my fellow foodies, this an amazing place to for you taste buds but it’s also al great if you like architecture, history and beautiful scenery.
These are my top 5 highlights:
- Wander through Alfama. The oldest neigborhood takes you back in time with it’s narrow streets and hidden restaurants.
- Day trip to Sintra. Get to see the gardens and castles where the rich used to party. It’s 45min by train from Lisbon and you get to see magical gardens, towers and even get to look inside some of the ballrooms.
- Visit the Belem Fort. It’s a bit outside the city so take a bike or step/scooter to enjoy to ride along the water. The forst used to be a prisson and you can get in if you want. I really enjoyed walking around it and enjoying the streetartist who played amazing covers!
- Bairro Alto! The place to enjoy dinner, drinks and dancing on the street. The place comes to life after 11pm so make sure you stay untill the streets are full.
- Viewing points. Especially the one at monte Agudo, take some wine and some food and enjoy the sunset as the city turns on her lights.
Food
Lisbon is a place where old meets new and lucky for us, it’s very cheap!
A country with a shore this big should be known for the fish right? Yess, Lisbon has many versions of canned fish! They have Sardienes, Salmon, Cod and many more. Check out the many shops all over the city.
Lisbon is also known for it’s Cod or the way they call it’ Bacalau ! but it’s not from their own shore, but because the people of Lisbon love their Cod they import it! By drying in salt it can stay fresh for weeks. you can get Cod everywhere so make sure you try it!
Wine and of course Port. Portugese wine is just as good as Spanish but they just don’t export it as much. So it’s cheap but full with flavors. And port, well Porto is so close so the
