Thailand Adventure

This was a trip that I never EVER imagined happening! I just quit my job to focus all of my time on creating my online business when my boyfriend asked me to join him and 3 other guys on a trip to Thailand.

It felt like a sign and of course I said YESS! Before I knew it the plane tickets had been booked and it was just one more week before we took off.

Small note: this was march 2022, Thailand was open but with strict covid rules bu we only needed to do one day of quarantaine when we’d arrived.

(Scroll all the way down to find some tips that I would have wanted to know before I traveled Through Thailand)

Phuket Island

Phuket is an Island just on south-west of the mainland. It has many hidden beaches, and is a perfect place to start your trip.

We explored the island by scooter for 250Baht (9euros), per day. Yess you need a helmet but it isn’t scary to drive here. The scooter gave us freedom to explore different viewingpoints and go beach hopping, like to Nai Han Beach!

The island is beautiful and beside beaches it also has many waterfalls (in rain season), temples and national parks. We wanted to see the deep water too so we decided to get our PADI license and I think that was best decision EVER!

The ocean is beautiful! We saw sharks, turtles, heaps of fish and beautiful coral. During our course we got to dive near some islands such as Racha Noi and Koh Phi Phi. You can stay the night at koh Phi Phi and dance untill dawn if you want to.

For food you don’t need to look that far! The little scatchy scooterfoodstand beside the road, will serve you a Fresh and delicious Pad Thai for only 50 baht (€1,50).

Phuket is focused on tourists so yo’ll notice that it’s more expensive than the rest of the country but still nothing compared to the european prices.

After a week on this beautiful island it was time to explore the mainland a bit more….

Krabi

Krabi is one of the most beautiful areas of Thailand. It’s known for the limestone crests that rise seductively from the beaches.

The Thung teao Forsest National Park shows the beauty of the jungle, mountains, hidden mineral pools and temples.

One of the popular beaches here is Railay beach, only reachable by boat. The limestone walls block any transport with the rest of the mainland. From Krabi town it’s only 20 minutes by boat and the scenery is worth it.

This area is rock climbers  heaven due to the many limestone, mountain walls you can climb. If you’re more a waterlover like me you can go kanoeing or snorkeling around the bay.

The black crab market is an amazing place to get food and chill for the night, just as the night market. If you’re here during the week I would suggest grabbing some food near the water!

Krabi is perfect if you want to see more of the amazing nature of Thailand. I wished I would have stayed longer but we needed to go to the only thing we had planned for this entire trip, the Full Moon party at Koh Pha Ngan

Koh Pha Ngan

Ready to Party?? This island is known for the full moon party and if you want you could party EVERYDAY! But the islands has more to offer than bucket drinks and neon paint.

Again, rent a scooter and check out many of the beaches! Besides being hot for travelers, this island is also a favorite for many Yogis. They have many yoga studios, and you can even go on a retreat if you want.

My favorite activity on Koh Pha Ngan was hiking to Bottle beach. It’s a 2 hour hike, sneakers Required, to find this hidden, white sanded beach. Relax, have a coconut, swim and if you don’t want to walk back you can take the boat back.

The full moon party:
Every month the beach Haad Rin becomes a massive dancefloor. As the sun sets the lights go on and all the neon paint will shine! Are you in for a little danger? Join the fire dancers on the beach! Watch or jump in and feel the combination of dead fear and excitement.

The island is very crowed and very focused on tourists, is you’re looking for culture, this isn’t really the right place for you.

Koh Tao

After Koh Pha Ngan we decided to go to Koh Tao, an island close by with a bit more relaxed kind of vibe.

This island is known for diving. Mainly because it’s cheap. The nature is beautiful but be careful, the roads are very steep and not as good as Koh Pha Ngan or Phuket.

We rented a villa to really chill for a few day. Unfortunately I got sick and didn’t see much of the island but I can tell that it’s has much more to offer than just diving.

If you want to meet more travelers, do a pubcrawl or go to Fishbowl. It’s filled with backpackers every night. Koh Tao is more quiet but it still has a lot of bars and restaurants to have a good night. Just walk along Sai Re beach and you’ll find a cute spot.

Food

Safety

Extra

  • Don’t drink the Tab water!
  • The icecubes aew made of filtered water so you can have it.
  • You can eat from the stands on the street. Just make sure it’s fresh made for you.
  • Skip the Sushi
  • They like spicy, ‘a little spice’ is still A LOT!
  • The serve ‘Western’ food, but don’t expect it will be top notch. Try some thaifood and you’ll be amazed by the favors.

I never felt unsafe but make sure to mind:

  • Put your money away, don’t just keep it in your pocket. (Easy but has to be said.)
  • TucTuc’s will try to charge you more, make sure to agree on a price before you enter!
  • Renting a scooter is safe, make sure you wear a helmet. (The fine is 300 Bath).
  • Thailand is more focused on guys so as a girl I could easily walk alone by day.( Didn’t try by night)
  • It can be crowded! If you have a tight schedule, plan in advance!
  • ‘safety’ is different than in western europe, the best is to go with the flow.
  • Buy a simcard! it’s not expensive and will help you with translations, directions, reservations and heaps more
